The Houston, Texas area is experiencing record flooding today and three counties continue to operate under a flood warning issued by the National Weather Service. Although the flood watch will remain in effect until noon tomorrow, officials have reported that some areas in Houston have experienced 5-7 inches of rain!
People are being cautioned to use alternative routes if they come across roads that have succumbed to the heavy rains and/or are located near the river. Others are warned to stay away from the river banks until the rains and water levels have subsided.
Other reports indicate that the Red Cross has opened three rescue and safety shelters in the areas hit hardest by the thunderstorms and accumulated rain; while the Houston area remains under a continuous flood watch.
